Are You Allergic to Your Office?
There is such a thing as occupational asthma, work-aggravated asthma and occupational allergic rhinitis. It is possible to be literally “allergic to your work.” But before we make any conclusions, let’s look at other possibilities. Check your home; examine it for possible allergens, particularly stuff you have just started using pillows, rugs, cologne or detergent soap. Use hypoallergenic personal care products and throw out stuff you don’t need.
If you suspect an allergen from animal hair or dropping, keep your pets outdoors. Vacuum frequently, change the sheet often and clean moldy cabinets under the sink. It’s possible that you are exposed to an offending substance in the morning and your symptoms manifest only when you’re already at work. Could your allergy be caused by the car air freshener on your way to work? Do you live close to factories, dumpsites or highways? Another important question: do you smok or hang out in smoke-filled places?
